  1. One of my earliest memories at my first incarnation as an attendee of First Baptist was Betty Atkinson as a teacher of the pre-kinder group, I believe. I can still smell the classroom where we met with dark wood molding and doors. As I have said a billion times, never have I met a more resilient soul than Betty Atkinson. May her memory always warm the hearts of all she knew and loved. Much love to all three of you and to her grandkids. I’m hoping she’s getting that “do over” with Fred! I would join you but I have a prior commitment that I cannot change on the 2nd.

  2. My mother, Betty Lloyd Matthews, spent this past week with me. Some of her memories that we reminisced were the Lloyd Family Reunions and how much effort your mother made to help keep the families connected. She will be greatly missed. I am so sorry that we will be unable to attend on April 2 because of previous engagements but want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  3. Ahhh, Betty Atkinson, mother of 4 great kids and many more, all the youth of FBC Faytown, and then there is me, bad English. But Betty took me under her wing while I shared Seminary days with Glen Holt at FBC YOUTH. She was a wizard of wonder, making lots of home and comfort for all of us. Perhaps we shared her grief over the loss of her life partner, Fred, and that drew us all together. But we all made it through tough times together, she and all those adolescents, and one youth director. She is at a well deserved rest, something she never got while all of us buzzed in and out of her home on earth. Since “So God so loved that he gave”…..I know he loved Betty. Nobody knew how to give as lovingly and generously as she did. And she and God have lots of catching up to do now! Sweet peace.

  4. Some say only the good die young, and that may often be true. However, sometimes the exceptionally good souls are kept around longer, like Betty,
to be an example of kindness, goodness, and to share much love – with a cherry on top!
I wish I’d been in closer zip codes to know Betty better, but I always admired how strong and genuine, fun and kind she was.
She will be dearly missed with much love and many fond memories.
Sending my love and heartfelt condolences to her family and friends…
May you feel peace, love, and joy as she celebrates and rests in Paradise.

  5. Rande and I were so thrilled to get to know Betty and her family through the Lloyd family reunions that she was an integral part of planning each year after we moved to NC. Rande’s parents always talked of the reunions with great affection. I also greatly appreciated all of her family history knowledge and all the stories she was willing to share. Much of the Lloyd family history in my collection is directly from Betty. She was such a warm and beautiful person. Rande and Pat McAlexander
